Nanuet is a hamlet located in the town of Clarkstown in Rockland County, New York and is about 30 miles away from New York City. Nanuet offers a lot and is an excellent place to call home and visit.
Nanuet is a large suburban community located at the heart of Rockland County. The residential areas of the hamlet are characterized by single family homes and townhouse/condominium as well as apartment complexes with surroundings covered by dense trees and foliage.
Having a central location places Nanuet among several major local and state roads. Route 59 and Route 304 run through most of Rockland County and host many businesses. Additionally, Nanuet has exits to Garden Interstate Parkway, Palisades Interstate Parkway and Interstate 287, which lead to all directions including upstate New York, down south to New Jersey and New York City, and east to Westchester. Nanuet has a train station along Pascack Valley Line operated by Metro North and New Jersey Transit, which leads to midtown Manhattan’s Penn Station via a transfer. Public Transportation by bus is provided by the Transport of Rockland (TOR.)
Nanuet has its own excellent public school district of Nanuet Union Free School District and is home to George W. Miller Elementary School, Highview Elementary School, A. MacArthur Barr Middle School and Nanuet Senior High School. The hamlet is also home to the Nanuet Public Library.
The most notable recreation facility in the hamlet is Lake Nanuet Park, which includes a new and huge multi-million gallon swimming pool, playground and picnic area, and several ball fields, all located on 33 acres. The smaller 9 acre Tennyson Park offers basketball courts and ball fields. Additional recreational facilities in Nanuet are available at the local schools, particularly the high school. Nanuet is home to several large exclusive residential communities with their own facilities such as tennis courts, swimming pools, clubhouses and playgrounds.
Nanuet is home to a large number of diverse businesses, mostly located on route 59 and 304, and offers plenty of jobs and employment. There are plenty of eateries in Nanuet ranging from the brand name fast food/restaurant chains to pizzerias and authentic restaurants serving ethnic and American cuisines. There are multiple shopping plazas with dozens of stores, including brand name retailers. The largest shopping area in the hamlet is the multi-story Nanuet Mall, which is the second largest shopping center in Rockland County behind the Palisades Center. Despite being a suburban community, Nanuet has a vibrant nightlife with the Liquid Ice Night Club (discotheque) and Stiletto Nanuet (gentlemen’s cabaret) as well as a couple of billiard parlors. Lodging in Nanuet is widely available at the multiple hotels in the hamlet.
